Devlog on Just A Box for GMTK GameJam 2023
Hi everyone,
First time posting a devlog here, hopefully we start doing so more frequently, as a way to reflect on the progress made. For this one, It's mainly in relation to the GMTK Game Jam 2023.
I decided to try and take on the challenge on creating and publishing a game within 48 hours that fits within a theme. Whilst my skills are still at the infancy stage, I wanted to take it on so that I can hone further my game designer ideas. I am glad I did so as well.
The Challenge was not easy. The pressure and stress of debugging blueprints/code or having things not working as they should without any reason (there's always a reason, but never appears as such during the time!) did get to me as some point, but through perseverance, I managed to create, what essentially is, my first ever game!
Its very rough, some bugs left in due to lack of time, but all in all, I am proud of what I have achieved.
I learned on how to adapt code around issues, troubleshooting and on revaluating features and ideas based on the given timeframe.
Initially I envisioned the game Just A Box to have a more dynamic AI, in which if they sense you are near they will re-evaluate their movement and adapt around you, and have cameras work a bit more properly yet still have angle limitations. I would also have like to have about 3x more levels, but couldn't fit more in. I also ended up cutting an options menu, due to the time constraints. These are features I hope to continue work on and improve as soon as I continue the game.
All in all, a very exciting experience and one I hope to continue doing! I m very proud of what was achieved thus far, even though its not much at the moment.
